We approach our expression of music by seeking to form consistent bands united around a common vision of sound, style, and the glorification of Jesus Christ in our city. In this context we feel we are better able to pursue the vision Jesus has given us for this ministry (see About page).
Why bands as opposed to worship team? First, we live in a city/culture that is relatively young and very transient, both of which (among other observations) lead to the fact that we have little to no distinguished, indigenous voice in terms of sound and style. (Due to the vast military influence of this area, this observation is also true of our church body). Thus, to contextualize music to Virginia Beach is to make many different sounds. We want our music & art to reflect both a cognizance of our surrounding culture as well as a desire for the gospel to engage it and redeem it. It is important to note that bands are not the sum total of this vision; they are merely the means or method by which we’ve chosen to pursue our vision.
How can I serve in this ministry? There are essentially four different ways to serve in this ministry as a musician: band leader, band member, guest musician, substitute/stand-in. For more information on each of these opportunities, see the “About” tab and review our “Vision” document. Regardless of the role you are interested in, we’d really like to hear from you. Fill out an audition form and let’s get the ball rolling!
What bands are currently established? At this time (10.1.11), we have four different bands that we are really excited about! Below are their names, members, vision statements, and social media. Check them out and let us know which you think you are most equipped to serve in.
